Adele has expressed her surprise at receiving a Mercury Music Prize nomination and revealed who her favourite fellow nominee is.

South London soul-pop siren Adele, full-name Adele Adkins, has also started writing new songs.

She wrote on her MySpace blog: "Can't believe I got nominated for a Mercury. Weren't expecting that at all."

The Tulse Hill singer then spoke about her passion for Raising Sand, another competing album.

Adele said: "I hope I get to see Robert Plant [at the awards ceremony], I love, love, love that album with Alison Krauss."

Although she would not say what she was writing about, recent tabloid reports claiming that Adele has a new boyfriend may explain her words about new music.

She wrote: "I've started writing again which I'm loving and am so excited about. Found the new topic for the next record...hahaha."
